Many people want to be kind, sensitive, and understanding towards people of different backgrounds––gender identities, sexual orientations, religious traditions, racial groups, with disabilities––but need a simple guide
Based on extensive research and input from persons with expertise related to various minority groups, this book provides in a single place a practical guide to various minority groups that introduces the culture of these different groups of people and offers useful advice about how to speak to them or about them.
Anyone who is interested in being open-minded, learning about others in a relatively short amount of time, and in using kind and considerate language is part of the intended audience for this book.
From the Preface
Understanding the concepts in this book gives you the language to include, the knowledge to appreciate others, and the power to stand as an ally. In a time when many of the identities in this book are being erased in legislative bodies, this book and your understanding of the language takes on an urgency in which real lives are at stake.
Once you’ve read this book, you will have the tools to teach others just by modeling the language of inclusion. Your words matter, and your words will change attitudes and beliefs if you use them wisely and with compassion.

Review by Salman Akhtar
In this turbulent and demographically-fluid world of ours, authentic communication is of profound importance. While appropriate language and familiarity with diverse customs are essential, the key to meaningful dialogue is the paradoxical acceptance of human similarity and individual differences. Knowledge and experience about the issues and concerns of ethnoracial, religious, and sex, and gender-related minorities go a long way in preparing one for truthful relatedness. This book by the talented teenager, Rishi Mago, offers many significant tips and guidelines for such discourse. Its language is straightforward and the writing style is user-friendly. I recommend it highly, especially to young readers!
Author of Immigration and Identity (1999), Immigration and Acculturation (2011), and most recently, Mind, Culture, and Global Rest (2018).

“Concise and so powerfully useful. Rishi Mago has done all of us a great service by writing a concise guide to understanding and respectfully navigating through our increasingly diverse society. In addition to raising my awareness about the power of particular words to either include or exclude, the author’s precise definitions and recommendations make this a highly practical guide.”
“A great read and a very positive work…”
“Timely topic! Very important topic especially at this time.”
